Quick-fire questions: Julien-K

June 23, 2013 at 01:46

One of the festival headliners, an American band Julien-K answers quick-fire questions.

Have you been to Russia before? Why did you accept the invitation to the V-Rox? Why is it interesting for you?

No, we have not been to Russia, and we have been trying to play in Russia for years. We’re very big fans of Russian pop culture and design, and some of our best friends and collaborators are Russian. Our main video Director is Russian, Katya Tsyaganova, and our good friend Ilya (who invited us to play the V-Rox festival) are two of our favorite people in the world. We also have a strong cult following in Russia, not only for Julien-K, but our other bands Dead By Sunrise and Orgy.

What russian bands do you know besides «Mumiy Troll» and what music do they perform?

Well, obviously Mumiy Troll is our “go to” Russian band. We love them. But were also fans of some Russian DJ’s like Zeskullz and Proxy.

Which of your songs should people listen to before your performance at the festival?

Were Here With You, Colorcast, Breakfast in Berlin, Palm Springs Reset, Cruel Daze of Summer, Kick The Bass.

How do you promote yourselves to the music market? What resources and mechanisms do you use?

We own our own label, Circuit Freq Records. We fund and promote all of our own material, as well as a variety of other amazing artists: Decode Radio, Computers Want Me Dead, Foxfairy, and more.

What’s the uniqueness of your band? How are you different from other bands and singers?

We are the absolute best mash-up of electro dance and rock. We are electro with real rock ‘n roll attitude — and passionate lyrics with melodic and hooky vocals. We sold millions of records in the US by being pioneers of electronic music fused with live energy in a way that no one in the world can touch.
